Yesterday and Today

We have been working so hard on fluency, so we did a lesson on real and nonsense words. They especially liked making up nonsense words. :)

We continued our base 10 unit. I'm seriously still amazed they can add 10 and a number to get 20!! Have them do it for u!

They love playing partner games. It's so fun to watch them work as a team.

Addison made a list of words that end with the letter Y. Awesome!

I loved how John David used both sight words in a sentence.

Salihah is a great reader! This seriously is my favorite part of the day. Listening to them read and retell is music to my ears. :) They love showing off to their Pre-k teachers. :)

I'm so proud of Fatima! She has shown so much perseverance!

She loves "high fiving" our sight words.

Kylie's reading group worked on short and long vowels today.

Friends give friends a hand!! I'm lovin all the teamwork in my class. They love to help each other during math.

We did a word problem today and I was so PROUD of Jahanvi's journal. Look at all the detail!! She used 2 rods too! My goal is for them to be well prepared for answering math open response questions on the benchmark test.

During writing, we focused on writing a 4 part sentence. Don't they look worn out?? We worked sooo hard today and Im so proud!!

I'm so proud of December and January's Kids with Character Recipients. Way to go! I'm so proud to be you teacher. :)

We had a great mini-vacation to San Diego for my sister-in-laws wedding. I'm glad to be back and got a wonderful report from my sub.

She did this a-dor-able penguin craft with them. They turned out so cute!

We were in full reading mode this morning. This group worked on the blends chart and focused on the "sh" chunk in their book. They did an outstanding job retelling the story!

During math, we talked about place value and constructed numbers using rods (10) and units (1). My kids blew me away with their strategies. I heard one say 1 rod and 7 units makes 17, so 10 + 7 = 17!!! Wow!! We focused on numbers 11-20 and will build upon that. They are so good at adding numbers to 10 using rods and ten frames!! So so proud!!!

Matthew worked hard constructing teen numbers.

Mattie asked for a harder number. Look at her go! She said..I know 2 tens makes 20 and you add 7 more ones and you get 27, so 20 + 7= 27! She was so proud of herself.

We had free write today so I could get caught up from being absent for 3 days. I loved John David's entry about the tornado drill this morning. Check out his illustration of the kids taking cover. Love it!

Ananya did a great job "fixing it up" in the writing center! Look at her editing marks! Can you believe a kindergartner knows how to edit??!!

Remily's reading response cracked me up! :) I think we're all sick of snowmen and ready for some warm sunshine. :)

Congrats to JD and Fatima for receiving the PE award! Great job!

I wanted to share some pictures from our trip. We had a ball!

Beverly Hills-Rodeo Drive!

Harrison's first time on an airplane. He did great.

We saw the famous Hollywood sign.

The Zoo was fabulous!!

We stayed on Coronado Island.

Before the wedding.

My sweet sister-in-law and her husband.

Harrison was the ring bearer. He did fantastic!!

Our last day we went to eat by the ferry.

I'm so proud of my class for being so well behaved while I was out. :) thank you for raising such precious children!!!

Happy Friday! We celebrated by building CVC (consonant vowel consonant) words with the letter Cheez-Its. You can do this at home too.

They recorded their answers on a recording sheet.

Addison did great during reading group today. She did so good retelling the story! Comprehension is such an important kindergarten skill.

We learned all about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr.

We made a tree map about him too.

Lilly did great during independent writing.

We continued with addition during math. I introduced adding using a number line. Wow! They picked up on this so fast. Just another great strategy to use to solve problems. I'm hoping to see this in their math journals for word problems.

We had a visitor at the end of the day. Harrison had a Dr's appointment at 3:15, so he got to
Spend time with me and my class. He was in heaven!! The kids are so sweet to him.

Ridge loves him!! So cute!

Kylie has been sick and we have missed her sooo much! I got this sweet letter from her! Precious!

Have a wonderful weekend! Harrison is headed to the farm to see my parents, so we're hoping to go see a movie. Don't forget there's no school on Monday.
Mark your calendars for the Roberts Rendezvous on February 23! My husband and I will be there and hope to see you too!! My sister-in-law is going to be the
