Gingerbread Man and 3 Part Sentence

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! My class shared all about their time with family, friends, shopping, and eating lots and lots of food! Ha! Me too! :)

We started our Gingerbread Man unit today. I love this book because it has so many other versions with different characters and plots. We will compare and contrast these books throughout the week. We will discuss story structure, which is the setting, characters, and sequencing the beginning, middle and end of the book.

Reading groups were in full swing today. Kaden and Chloe rocked their reading strategies! Way to go!!

During writing, we learned about a 3 part sentence, the who, what, and where. We cut pictures from magazines to formulate a complete sentence. They did fantastic. I will post work samples later this week.

Writer's Workshop

We worked so hard on our turkey research project. We moved right through the writing process, starting with pre-write and ending with a published piece. I am so impressed by their perseverance and stamina! Here is an example of the kindergarten writing process: pre-write, rough draft, edit, and publish.

We learned the story of the first Thanksgiving using different colored beads. They did a wonderful job retelling the events.

Today we learned about the first Thanksgiving between the Native Americans and Pilgrims.

During writing, we organized our thoughts about Native Americans using a tree map. Leighton wrote Native Americans lived in tepees. Native Americans ate berries.

I am so proud of her!!

These cuties practiced setting the table for Thanksgiving. We have practiced what happens first to the very last steps. We also labeled the items too.

This was my fav part of the day! We made our "plate full of thanks". These turned out precious! I can't wait to send them home!

Pauly wrote...I am thankful for Don Roberts school. Great job! He placed the napkin and flatware in the right spot.

I hope your child practiced setting the table tonight. I loved getting pictures from my kids!

Molly lost a tooth today!!

Our mystery reader, Grandmama, read 3 fabulous books. We always enjoy her visits. Thank you for your time!

KinderFeast

We had a fabulous feast in the dining room today! We enjoyed a wonderful spread, turkey, dressing and all the fixings!! I had so much fun eating with my kinderpals! Our administrators joined in on the fun too! Mr. Helmick, our vice principal, took the stage and taught us many important Native American facts. So cool!

All about Turkeys

What a fun week learning about turkeys! Who knew there was such a difference between wild and tame turkeys?!?! We did a lot of writing this week! We used 3 different graphic organizers, wrote a first draft, revised and now starting to publish. We are moving right along in the writing process. I am so proud!!! To top it off, my kinders created a PowerPoint about turkeys! They added new slides, typed sentences, and inserted pictures! How cool is that?!?! This is why I love my job! Each one of my kinderpals inspires me!
